In an effort to reach out to more members of the CEP, the OEC Executive have sent the following letter to the Regional office for it to be included in the next bulk mail out.

As the letter states, the more people who are affiliated and working together, the more successful we will be.

The ONTARIO ENERGY COUNCIL, OEC

Greetings

My name is Mark Mathewson and I am currently the President of the OEC.

I believe that education is the corner stone to everyone’s ability to be a great Leader. That as a Union, a group of like minded people, working towards a common goal of the betterment of all working people, we need to help each other as much as possible.

The best way I know to help our members is to offer great educational opportunities to their leaders. We, the OEC, formed out of the ashes of the CEP merger in 1992, and since then have worked closely with the Leadership of the Ontario region to ensure that the tradition of providing education to the members of Ontario has lived on. Working closely with the CEP regional Leadership for the past 27 years the OEC has delivered courses that compliment or help to supplement the National’s Education Program, but we have a problem. This problem is that not every one of the 10 000 Energy sector members are currently affiliated with us. The reasons for this are many. I do not want to dwell in the past as to why only just over half of the Energy sector is affiliated with the OEC. I want to look to the future. I want to look to the possibility of having all of you who are not currently affiliated with OEC, becoming members. I want to look to the future where all the Energy sector members take advantage of the opportunities that the OEC with 10 000 strong can deliver to our members. Opportunities such as Strong leadership, better skills, a yearly opportunity to network with the leaders of the Energy Sector from across the whole Province, these are just a few of the benefits we will be able to achieve with you working with us.

Remember that one thing the past has taught us, is that we get more for our members by working together, that united we prosper, divided we beg. Let us learn from this message, help me to achieve the mandate of the OEC, let us all work together to make each of us stronger.
